HK Hair Dying Experience

Back home a haircut and balayage would be around $300, and I was in much need for a haircut and coloring, so I did my research to find the right salon in Hong Kong. Not going to lie, I was extremely scared about doing this. For one, I wanted a balayage (a Western hair dying technique) and two, and most importantly, I wasn't sure if my stylist would speak English.

As I was scrolling through my Instagram feed, I saw an ad for a hair salon. I looked into the account, which was filled with balayage designs, and found a style that I liked. I messaged the stylist via WhatsApp, as instructed, and asked him about the price. My stylist Arro told me he could do everything for me for $980 HKD (around $125) and I was shocked. He was free the next day, so I booked the appointment with him.

When I sat in the seat waiting for my hair stylist, I started a conversation with the girl next to me since we were both waiting to be seen. She looked around my age, but I found out she graduated a few years ago and spoke both English and Cantonese. Throughout our appointments, she would help me talk to my stylist whenever I needed help clarifying anything. It was also nice to have someone to talk to because the entire treatment took about four hours. Arro even asked if we were friends because of our conversations, but I had to tell him that we actually just met!
Summary...
Stylist: Arro Leung (messages back fairly quickly)
Location: TST (cheaper than Central because it is more local, but there is few English speakers)
I requested a "v-cut" trim and balayage as seen in the post, along with the results.

For the price, I was pretty satisfied. If you are looking to get your hair done in Hong Kong, I definitely recommend it because you will be saving a lot of money. First, look at hair accounts located in TST and see what styles you like. Other stylists I was looking at were edgy_salon and eric_chow_hair. Then, if you contact them and their pricing fits your budget and they having openings when you are available, make sure you go to the salon with a picture and someone who can translate for you. The biggest struggle was communicating with my stylist, so I'd recommend going with someone who can help you translate. Also, make sure you take the day off as it can run later than expected.
