The flight. Getting from Hawaii to Hong Kong, with one short layover in Guam, like most long plane rides, was a bit uncomfortable, but as expected. The entire flight lasted around 13 hours, where my plane left home at around 3:30 in the afternoon on New Year's Day and landed in Hong Kong a day later at around 11:00pm HKT. My body was aching from sleeping a little and sitting upright for a long period of time, but at least the people I was seated next to were friendly. During my flight to Guam, I found out that I was sitting right next to another student traveling to studying abroad in Hong Kong, Aerial. We are attending different Hong Kong universities, but we were both from Hawaii on the same flight (and row!) going to study in the same country. What are the odds of that??

Airport arrival. I was trying to navigate the Hong Kong airports with another Freeman scholar studying in Hong Kong, Anna Chen. We received our landing slips of student permit at the Immigration Counter and retrieved our bags (which thank God they did not get lost), then had to split up. I had to take the New Territories (green) taxi to get to my university dorm, which they call hostels. Honestly, it was a pretty chaotic experience, but we survived off of her Cantonese and the limited airport wifi.

For future reference when you travel throughout the semester. If you're coming from CUHK and going to the airport, take the MTR to Shatin station (two stations away) and then take the Airport bus (A41) the rest of the way. This is the cheapest option and takes about an hour. Don't forget to check your terminal!
