Studying at CUHK vs. at UHM.
1. SIMILARITY: Lectures are taught in English.
2. SIMILARITY: Group projects are common.
2. DIFFERENCE: Classes (besides language courses) are usually only once a week and last for almost three hours. Don't worry though, you get a break in between.
3. DIFFERENCE: Not participating in class could actually hurt your grade!
4. DIFFERENCE: If you want a good grade in the class, you need to do better than your classmates. Only a certain number of people can get "A"s.
My "ratemyprofessor" opinions.
MGNT 2040 (HRM 351)
Professor Po Yung "Anna" Tsui is very knowledgeable on HR and gives a lot of information that is important but was hard for me to keep up with sometimes. Her tests are very straightforward and she asks for our opinion on certain topics throughout the lectures. She was super helpful when I made an appointment to talk to her about the final, because she went over the answers to the previous tests I took so I could figure out what I got wrong.
FINA 3010 (BUS 313)
I found this course to be more like economics with more theories and less formulas. The professor was great, but I struggled in this class the most. Make sure you understand the homework and go over the lecture slides when you study for exams. Professor Wenxi "Griffin" Jiang is very down-to-earth and knowledgeable. He also focuses on participation in class rather than attendance, so make sure you speak up in class. He notices.
MKTG 3010 (MKT 321)
Marketing research...emphasis on research and statistics
Professor Ching Biu "Alan" Tse can be a bit monotoned during his lecture, but he does add in some dad jokes, which can be funny because he also says his jokes very seriously. If you ask him one-on-one for help, he is very helpful, but he seemed to expect a lot from my group, because we found it difficult to figure out what he was particularly looking for. Make sure you clarify your topic and his view of it because my group had to modify our topic halfway through. Fortunately, for the final exam, you are able to bring in a cheat sheet.
MKTG 2010 (BUS 312)
Professor Kenneth Justin Lee (call him Kenneth or Ken, don't add Justin because he says it reminds him of the singer Justin Bieber) instructs his class unlike anything I've experienced. Just know that if you take his course, you have to dance. Yup, dance. At the end of the semester, you are required to create a 40 minute performance with your group. Sounds very intimidating and I am not a dancer, but I took it because it's different and fun. This is probably why this became my favorite course this semester. It's a bit subjective, but make sure you participate and give him a "wow factor." He also puts the final and report after the presentation so that we have more time to practice.
**Check out "FYRE" for our performance**

Professor Man Kuen Chak is a bit shy when she teaches, but the layout of the class is simple. Attendance is not necessary, but she does have "self-tests" throughout her powerpoint slides that you won't know the answer to unless you pay attention in class. She puts the final a month earlier than the rest of my finals in mid-April so that we have more time to work on our final group presentation. This class was the only one I did not necessarily need to take this semester, but it can count as my International Business Elective.
I understand that fifteen credits for a semester abroad is not common, but I wanted to try it because it makes sense for me if I wanted to double major. Even though it has not been the easiest semester, it's crazy that it's almost over. Here's to a lot more studying and finishing strong!!!
